High-tech and big data approaches have the potential to improve the sustainability and working conditions of fish farmers, as well as to help society better understand the interdependencies of aquaculture with the environment (FAO, 2020).
Indeed, despite the number of remote observation systems monitoring the Earth’s climate and environment, as well as the growing number of buoys collecting marine environmental data in the fields of aquaculture and fisheries, digital technologies still have a long way to go. Specifically, technologies such as the IoT and Artificial Intelligence can help by identifying patterns in feeding activities and presenting strategies to fish farmers, from the efficient use of feed in terms of cost to maintaining fish welfare.
This project aims to take a first step towards digital transformation in aquaculture, focusing on the feeding process and, in particular, researching new models and methodologies to predict fish feed intake through 4.0 technologies such as IoT and Artificial Intelligence.
General objective:
To investigate the potential of enabling technologies for digital transformation in the development of new models and methodologies for predicting the appetite and predisposition to feed intake of fish in aquaculture farms, such as IoT and machine learning.
